Merrell Philippines Launches Barefoot Collection

April 8 was memorable day for barefoot and minimalist runners.  It was the day when Merrell Philippines launched its Barefoot Collection and I was able to witness the media launch at Merrell's concept store in Market Market (Fort Bonifacio)

Press Release
Merrell partnered with Vibram® to produce an exclusive Barefoot Collection for the outdoor category.  Minimalist, lightweight, versatile, and efficient, the Merrell Barefoot Collection allows feet to grip authentic natural surfaces and lead sports enthusiasts into their preferred outdoor activities.

This new footwear style helps create a more natural stride because it encourages a forward momentum and mid-foot landing. It also provides a lower impact and an aligned and effortless gait.  The Merrell Barefoot Collection is designed to stimulate different muscles, strengthen the core, and improve agility.

The Barefoot Collection for men includes the Trail Glove, True Glove, and Tough Glove.  All three styles are extremely lightweight and versatile and can take you from the trail to walking around town.
Ladies will take a liking for the Merrell Pace Glove, Power Glove, and Pure Glove. All shoe models follow the Merrell’s credo “Performance Made Beautiful,” because they fit well and look good at the same time.

Try the Merrell Barefoot Collection now at Merrell concept stores and all leading department stores.  Go outdoors with the Merrell Barefoot!

If you are wondering how much a pair cost, Trail Glove is priced at P4095. True Glove is being sold at P3995. You can get your hands on a pair of Pace Glove for only P3795.  Lastly, the Pure Glove can be yours for only P3495

Is it expensive?  No!  I consider this a steal.  Their pricing scheme is very competitive especially when compared to what is locally available (Vibram FiveFingers and Terra Plana)

I tried the Trail Glove for a brief walk around the store.  Kinda felt weird wearing it the first time as the shoe was "tightly" hugging the arch/midfoot section.  However, according to Dave and Dindo (Barefoot Running Philippines) it will eventually feel comfortable after breaking it in.  The toe box was very roomy and will definitely allow toe splay.  Nothing to worry on that department

Lastly, the ground feedback.  According to Runner's World, its stack (forefoot/heel) height is 10.7mm.  Too thick in my opinion.  I believe that's the reason why I felt numb.  I got used to running on minimalist shoes that has less than 2mm soles, anything thicker falls short on my expectations

Will I get one?  Its a THUMBS UP!  The zero-drop implementation cannot be ignored.  Even though the sole is too thick for my taste, it will serve great protection on my future trail runs.  Next step for me, is to save up and get me a pair.  Not unless Jeff of Merrell PH, with his big heart, will be kind enough to throw me a pair
