Run United 3 2012

Run United is back, after a nearly three-month break. And as the cliché goes, ‘the third time is a charm’. Last year, in fact, a record number of runners estimated at over 14,000 participated in Run United 3

Run United 3, the third leg of the Run Rio Trilogy, has always been much anticipated because it offers what is dubbed as the ‘Afroman distance’ or 32k category—not usually included in other run races

“The 32k Afroman Distance in RU3 can be a preparatory race for the full 42.195km category in the upcoming 1st ever Run United Philippine Marathon slated on October 28. RUPM will still have the shorter categories: 500m dash, 3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K” said Alex Panlilio, Head of Unilab Active Health (ULAH)

Fun and exciting activities await runners and their family at the Active Health Village, new and bigger Active Kids Zone, Runners’ Lounge, I-Connect Zone, The Food Pavilion and Health, Sports, & Leisure Zones

Lim and Ballester ruled MILO Marathon Naga

NAGA CITY, August 19, 2012 – Darwin Lim took advantage of better weather conditions and his familiarity with the 21km course to rule the men’s division of the 36th National MILO Marathon Naga Eliminations leg Sunday in Naga City. A total of 7,848 runners participated in the race

Lim of the NCF running club timed 1:16:29 and pocketed the P10,000 top purse, followed by Crifrankreadel Indapan in 1:17:54, and Jucell Laya in 1:22:26. “My aim is to beat my own time at the 42-k track of the National Finals. I will not prioritize qualifying for the Top 10 runners, but focus on giving a better performance than last year,” said Lim. “I will try to set the pace for the next race to achieve my goal and win.”

In the distaff side, Jolly Ann Ballester dominated the 21km track and clocked in at 1:42:43. Completing the top 3 cast in the women’s division were Myla Jamon in second place with 1:48:10 and Cherry Palles in third with 1:50:06

Ballester expressed that she is also determined to do better in the National Finals. “I’m going to focus on training for the next race. Last week’s weather conditions affected my training routine and pace today. I intend to improve my time by increasing the difficulty of my training,” said the five-time 21km track runner.

MILO strives to develop the future of the Filipino youth by promoting and actualizing its advocacy program, ‘Help Give Shoes’, which has already reached 17,200 underprivileged school children nationwide. The program has distributed running shoes to students from five schools in Naga City namely, Triangulo Elementary School, Concepcion Grande Elementary School, Naga City Science High School, Sabang Elementary School, and San Isidro Elementary School

Happy Birthday Singapura!

August 9 2012. Celebrated Singapore's 47th birthday with a 5-mile recovery run. It has been 10 days since I did my full marathon race. Normally I would've covered at least 9 miles and only allowing myself with 2 days of rest. However I was mandated by Meowth to take a full week of rest. I cheerfully obliged

It was already 8 o'clock in the evening when I donned my Minimus Trail.  Yup! I took it for a spin for the first time.  Since I left my hr watch at home, I was going to run based on feel.  The stoplights served as my breaks.  I was doing quite well on my first half.  Form and breathing was spot on.  Though my heart rate was elevated, it wasn't a concern

I was on my 3rd mile when my calves said "hi!"  They were working overtime.  I guess this is what I deserve for going beyond a week with no roadwork.  In my final stretch, I felt a minor sting on my right knee. Nothing serious. Will have another slow run this weekend. Maybe 9 miles if I got lucky

I need to get back in shape soon. I still have 11 more weeks for another full marathon (Run United Philippine Marathon)  Plenty of time.  I pray that the weather will cooperate for the weeks to come so I won't miss any of my training runs.

Rexona Run 2012 Moved To September 23

In its commitment to give the best running experience to its runners, the Rexona Run 2012 slated this Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Mall of Asia grounds has been postponed to September 23 2012

Due to the extreme weather that is hitting Metro Manila and other parts of the country, Rexona, together with RunRio, has decided to move this much-anticipated event to a later date to ensure that the logistics are fully in place to give participants a safe and enjoyable run. This will give the race officials and participants who are affected by the heavy rains and flooding time to recover and recharge before the run

Now on its third year, the Rexona Run has become one of the most anticipated running events. This year, participants will prove their mettle and get a chance to win cash prizes, medals and bragging rights in the 21K Solo, 21K Relay and 5K races. Flat screen TVs and mobile phones will also be given away to lucky participants

For more updates, check out the Rexona Men Facebook page, visit www. runrio.com or call/text the race hotline at +63927-347-7700 (Globe), +63929-717-8164 (Smart) or +632-887-6194

Runner’s World PH - Special Beginner’s Guide

Runner’s World Philippines recognizes how perfectly normal it is for a dedicated runner to eventually switch to a path completely unrelated to running – returning to old sports, taking a break due to heavy workloads or injuries, or even raising a new pet. The July-September issue of Runner’s World Philippines will serve as a guide for both newbie runners and running returnees

The latest edition of Runner’s World Philippines dubbed as the Special Beginner’s Guide features a head-to-toe manual to answer FAQs and provide other essential information to gear you up for your first marathon. Plus, get tips from leading experts and running legends on how to be race-ready, achieve longer distances, and find out the details and intricacies about CrossFit training, ultrarunning, and high altitude trainings

As the London Olympics is coming up, Runner’s World Philippines gives credit to the Philippine running legend Lydia de Vega in an exclusive feature as she recalls how hard work and dedication pushed her to the top. In the interview, Lydia shares a truly inspiring advice for running athletes: “There are days when you just can’t give your all. There’s always tomorrow. Take this day as a lesson, a stepping stone for something better. Then next time, work harder to give your 100%. We’re humans, not machines”

Also in this issue is a feature on our very own Olympians like Eduardo Buenavista, David Nepomuceno, Miguel White, Isidro del Prado, Hector Begeo, and this year’s London Olympics representative for the 5,000 meters event Rene Herrera

Triathlon King Arland Macasieb headlines the cover of the July-September issue of Runner’s World Philippines, now available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide for P150.
