Corpus Christi School Sweep Mindanao Leg

Corpus Christi School reigned supreme over its rivals in both elementary and secondary divisions of the 27th MILO Little Olympics Mindanao Leg, which concluded Sunday at the Pelaez Sports Center, Cagayan De Oro City. Leading beverage brand MILO once again welcomes competitive student-athletes in displaying their winning energy in the 27th MILO Little Olympics. It recently concluded its Visayas leg, with University of San Carlos at the top of the ranks for both elementary and secondary divisions. Now, the stage is set for the competition’s NCR leg on August 22 to 24, 30 to 31 at the Marikina Sports Complex.

The MILO Little Olympics emphasizes MILO’s unwavering commitment in helping the country find the next generation of sports heroes by seeking to develop not only athletic skills but mental discipline in student-athletes as well, through its roster of 13 sporting events, namely Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Football, Gymnastics, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tae Kwon Do, Volleyball, Sepak Takraw and Scrabble.

Among the enhancements made for the 2014 MILO Little Olympics are the electronic registration, insurance coverage for all athletes and the use of top of the line sports equipment. “This year, we have partnered with the leading sports equipment brands to provide the best equipment, similar to those that the Philippine national teams use,” said Robbie De Vera, MILO Sports Executive. “We aim to elevate the MLO experience for our student-athletes and ensure that they have the best tournament experience possible.”

Enervon Activ Review (Part 2)

Does Enervon Activ work? I haven't taken any multivitamins for awhile so the timing couldn't get any better. The most effective way, for me, was to consume a capsule right before I sleep. I chose this method because I had other multivitamins before and it was able to bring me up to my feet even with 5-6 hours of sleep. I've set my 7AM alarm and went to bed. Did I wake up? Yes, I did! But didn't had the strength to bring me out of the bed. I was still drowsy. Went back to sleep for 3 more hours. I tell you, bed is evil. To make the test conclusive I had to continue taking Enervon Activ for 8 more days. I was able to wake up at 7AM. It was pretty consistent. There are times that I'd be able to bring myself up even before my alarm goes wild.

Did it magically improve my well-being? Was I able to find the meaning of life? Or perhaps placebo? I am not gonna lie. Most of the time I'd feel sluggish in the morning. Perhaps being tucked under the sheets is way better than the aroma of coffee. Was it a failure? Can't say. Enervon Activ is no magic pill. Though I know a handful swears by it. So what I did was to throw in a twist. I've skipped an evening dose and had one in the morning. My initial experience? Seems that my body responded better. I guess my habit of taking one at night is gone forever. Either it was formulated in such a way that one gets to experience its effect or it is how it is. I need more time (and promo pack) to verify the consistency.

When I was training to break the 3:45 barrier, part of my preparation was nutrition. I cannot emphasize enough how crucial it is especially on long distance races. I wasn't munching whatever my hands can grab on. I became picky with the food that I eat. I gave up soda. I gave up french fries. I gave up chicken skin. I gave up a lot of things. My diet was focused on antioxidants to lower my cholesterol, protein to promote muscle recovery, vitamin K and calcium for my bones, omega-3 to help balance my body's inflammation and a good bowl of greens. Even measuring my liquid intake before, during, and after my runs. And you thought that hydration was simply drinking enough water and keeping your pee as bright as day was enough? There's overhydration. Ginseng and royal jelly could be the missing link in breaking my personal bests. I will get that chance next month

Bottomline no red (or blue) pill can replace hard work. But your hard work will go down the drain if your body doesn't get the nutrients it require. We can all push ourselves as far as we can before it start breaking down. And nutrition is a critical component in achieving your best. Should you take Enervon Activ? I'd say NO if you are into short distances. The nutrients we get from the food that we eat daily should suffice. Similar to drinking an isotonic/electrolyte drink for doing a less than an hour of exercise is a total waste of money. Your body doesn't need it. Don't grab one just because everyone is doing it. Read up and be informed. A big YES if you are doing full and ultramarathons. It is a cost-effective way of getting the nutrients that we need. Can't argue with that.

Doing a full marathon in Run United Philippine Marathon? Lose the junk food and get a promo pack (10 softgels). Like what I insinuated in my last article, not only it will help you complement your nutrition plan, you also get a chance to win an all-expense paid trip and run in Angkor Wat Half Marathon. Not bad, right? Visited Singapore (2010, 2011) and Malaysia (2012) for their annual marathon and there's no greater feeling of being able to represent our motherland and be part of statistics. You get to test your mettle against other nationalities

If your body doesn't respond well enough then go right ahead and ditch it (or give it to me). There is no point in ruining a good race in order to try out something new. And if your tempo runs improved, do leave a note and share the good news.

Enervon Activ Review

You may have noticed that I have been under the rock for almost a year. Gained weight. Increased waistline. Barely making 5km practice runs before ravaging my 3000-calorie dessert. Going out for occasional races here and there but nothing consistent. Have not written anything that spawned from my uber imaginative brain (cough, cough) besides the press materials that come my way. Though there were few exceptions but not that many. Now you ask, what magnanimous force would take me out of my cave? Regaining a healthy body? Setting a new marathon PR? Restarting a healthy lifestyle? Missing my good ol' running community? Nope! None of that. I came out of my shell for a writing contest. Heard it right.

My heart pounded at 220kph when I learned that the prize was a shiny, high-def, personal camera. This is no longer a petty writing contest. THIS. IS. WAR! Unfortunately you can't join. Let me be specific. I don't want you to join. Prior to joining you need to traverse the valley of the shadow of death. Jump off from a 50-foot cliff and onto a sea where flesh-eating sharks await. You get the drift. As much as I can I want to cut down my competition. Again. You can't join. You don't want to join. Nuff said. Now before you stop reading and saying your "boos!", let me tell you that this article ain't going to be another lame, kiss-ass, time-wasting hullabaloo like those you will get from the others (I told you this is war).

This review is going to be as witty, honest, and true to the bone as it can get. I know I'm rusty but I'll do my best. The folks from Unilab may end up hating me. They may even disqualify me if they want to. Worst, forever ban me from any Unilab-related events. However as Chris (Everingham of Volcanoes) have said, our readers are our responsibility. I'd say flame suit on!

Let me kick off by saying that the criteria alone is difficult to comply. Making a lot of stuff as cohesive as possible and without losing focus. I even have to throw in the tagline, "Build Stamina with Enervon Activ: Keep Training, Keep Performing!". How am I gonna do that without losing my cool? There! I said it! That's one item off my chest. So let's get things rolling by saying that this review is about one of the latest offering of Unilab - Enervon Activ. If you've been joining Unilab events you are pretty much aware of its existence not unless you are too engrossed of beating your own PB (personal best), or someone elses, that you totally missed out the huge banners and the multivitamins inside the race packet

"Enervon Activ is a supplement formulated to build stamina for sports-active people" according to the flyers.  Common logic will say that Activ will boost your energy (Panax Ginseng, Royal Jelly and B-Complex) and strengthen one's immunity (Antioxidant vitamins A, C, E and Zinc) simply by looking at its ingredients. Not to mention the so-called Mineral Sium 5X (Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium) for better muscle control. But does it work? Practitioners of Chinese traditional medicine consider ginseng the "king of herbs". Perhaps for a very good reason. There were studies made that it can help manage blood sugar, combat fatigue, and fight infection. Hold on. You don't need me to tell you about this. You yourself can search for references thru the power of Google. You may also want to check out History Channel's "Appalachian Outlaws" to learn more about the ancient herb

I know what you are thinking. There are other supplements like Rogin-E and Pharmaton that also offer the same stuff - Ginseng and Royal Jelly. Following the spiel of our local TV and radio broadcaster Miguel "Mike" Enriquez, Enervon Activ offers more of the potent ingredients (see the table below). So who is the clear winner? Immuvit! With its whooping 90mg of Ginseng. Problem is, it doesn't offer Royal Jelly. Boo hoo. Unilab's clear-cut advantage is the PRICE per capsule and a generous dose of ginseng and royal jelly. Enervon Activ trumps the other three. Can't believe it meself. Do visit Mercury Drug, Watsons, 7-Eleven, or the nearest "suking tindahan" to confirm my claim. With the savings you get, you can buy yourself a fat and juicy burger every week!

Enervon Activ Rogin-E Pharmaton
Ginseng 50mg 20mg 40mg
Royal Jelly 6mg 5mg 0mg
Vitamin B1 7.5mg 1.5mg 2 mg
Vitamin B2 8.5mg 1.5mg 2 mg
Vitamin B6 10mg 2mg 1 mg
Vitamin A 3000 IU 5000 IU 4000 IU
Vitamin C 100mg 60mg 60mg
Vitamin E 5 IU (4.5mg) 75mg 10mg
Zinc 500 mcg 1mg 1mg

Six million dollar question remains ... does Enervon Activ work? Let me put you on a cliffhanger. The answer to that questions deserves another article. Besides I am already sleepy. Hope I'd still get the chance and that my fingers aren't chopped off by tomorrow. What do you do while you wait? Join their digital promo and get a chance to run a half marathon in Angkor Wat. Simply purchase their promo pack and feed the information needed thru their online form (unilabactivehealth.com/templerun). Simple, eh? Check out my Saturday (August 16) post for more details

Alaska IronKids Uphold the Meaning of a True Champion

August 1 was a memorable day for our Alaska IronKids as they participate in the Alaska IronKids support Gatas for Breakfast, a practice run for a good cause. It was an enriching experience for the IronKids participants as they not only practiced running with the Ironman Pros like Pete Jacobs, Caroline Steffen, Belinda Granger, and Alaska Tri-Aspire Team Coach Mat O’Halloran, Banjo Norte and Jenny Guerrero, they also shared a nutritious breakfast with milk to over 1,500 young students of Mactan Elementary School.

This effort to foster a healthy consciousness among individuals and families—through the combination of exercise and proper nutrition—is Alaska’s way in helping fight against the increasing number of overweight and undernourished children in the country. Having a healthy and active lifestyle does not only involve physical activity but also proper nutrition, living up to Alaska’s key meesage, Nutrition.Action.Champion

Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines 2014

Check out the coverage of SunStar Philippines. Not the kind of coverage that you'd expect. Not much on the swim and bike leg. I guess we still have a long way to go in covering such event. Can't complain. Better than nothing. I'd suggest you skip some parts so you don't end up wasting 4 hours of your life. Lol!

Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014

Trying to squeeze a full marathon this October? There's still limited slots in KL Marathon (all the other categories were sold out). Majority of the route is pretty flat and it'll hit most of the tourist spots. A section of the race is on a highway. Good for heat training. Last section is quite hilly. Not that difficult to overcome but can break your will if training is inadequate
