Got to say, kudos to all the men and women of Alaska for their continued support of this program. Growing up I was made aware of the existence of another sports program. By having the selection program in the mix, gives a whole lot of opportunity to the kids. Those 10 boys and 5 girls that got selected gets to participate in a unique, overseas NBA experience together with fellow Jr. NBA All-Stars from Southeast Asia later in the year. I wish that Alaska will continue this endeavor for another 10 or 20 years. Can't wait for the possibility of my kid participating in the training camp and then getting selected. Now that would be so cool!
To show NBA's full support of the program and to inspire the participants, the event was graced by Nerlens Noel of the Philadelphia 76ers and WNBA Legend Ruth Riley. I'd be honest, I am no basketball fan. More so on the women's division. I got none of the enthusiasm from my dad who used to be a fanatic of the good ol' basketball era. A real shame especially when Filipino's are basketball crazy. Though I did some b-ball on my earlier years but it only lasted a few games. Seeing a six foot eleven dude and a 6'5" gal made me fumble as I check my browser app to help me identify who the heck were they. Can you blame me if I only knew the greats? I guess I got to watch more telly and get myself updated with the latest.
Putting my ignorance aside, I will be anticipating next year's training camp. My takeaway for this year's edition? Perseverance and hard work are ingredients that we need in order to succeed in sports and life in general

Every aspect of the race encouraged the women to be #betterforit, pushing thousands of Filipinas to take on challenges and commit to become better versions of themselves. The route went through the residential areas of Filinvest and featured hills which the women conquered together. The race village, located within a multi-level carpark, had Nike Training Club (NTC) stations challenging women to be #betterforit through workouts such as squats, lunges, planks and push-ups to earn rewards. DJ Jess Milner, a fast-rising female DJ in the music scene in Manila, was on the deck to add to the high energy level. Women made their #betterforit commitments which were brought to life within an interactive #betterforit dome installation.
“Women across the globe are embracing the fitness and sport lifestyle, and this is even more evident in the Philippines. We are here to empower them through services, product innovation, athlete inspiration and motivating them to be the better version of themselves,” says Patrick Reyes, Country Marketing Manager for Nike Philippines. “Whether it was her first 10k race, or a moment to achieve her personal best, Nike is here to inspire, connect and enable women to be #betterforit.”
Nike enabled women to train for the race through Nike+ Run Club sessions every Saturday, weekly N+TC classes, and free sessions with partner gyms which included Onelife Studio Makati, High Intensity Interval Training Philippines, 360o Fitness Club, Striking MNL, Plana Forma, and Elorde Boxing Gym. As part of the training journey, participants took part in N+TC Live on 25 April in Valkyrie, Manila’s largest nightclub. Led by NTC Trainer Sheena Vera Cruz, N+TC Live took over 200 participants through a high-energy NTC workout.
Apart from the activities, the women trained with the global community on Nike+, through the Nike+ Running app and Nike+ Training Club app which provided customized training programs designed by coaches.
“This is definitely something that I will remember for a long time. This is my first time joining an all-women race, and my whole race experience has been so beautiful and positive. I’m sure all runners who joined the Nike Women’s 10k Manila will say the same,” shares Monica Torres, number one female triathlete in the Philippines. “All women who crossed the finish line are better for it and have every reason to be proud of achieving their 10k goal.”
Nike Women’s 10k Manila is part of the global Nike Women's Event Series, connecting more than 200,000 women across 25 cities. Designed to power women to be better through sport, the series includes the Nike Women’s Race Series, with runs ranging from 5k to half marathon, and the N+TC Tour, a five-hour training challenge hosted by elite athletes and master trainers.

Save the date! On 16 May 2015, Color Manila will transform Filinvest City, Alabang into a supernatural, extraterrestrial dimension. Prepare to be bombed with colored powders specially formulated to glow under UV light. What happens between the gun start, the UV-lit stations and the finish line can only be described as a complete distortion of the senses.
Your reward for having fun at the race course? A finisher’s medal and a party! And by “party” Color Manila means “a bunch of happy, supersonic, neon-colored balls of energy dancing while singing”. And that is putting it lightly. Then add the monumental color toss called the Color Festival and everyone will surely be driven into a temporary madness.
Registration fee for all distances of 3K, 6K and 10K is at P850. Each participant gets his/her own blacklight headlamp, a dri-FIT shirt, a race bib, a drawstring bag and an ink pillow from Brother Philippines. Expect that this mega event will result to a multisensory overload—splashes of colors, amazing show of lights, over the top costumes and hot blaring music care of resident DJ Marxx Monterola. Consider yourself warned

Alaska believes that sports play an important role in instilling the value of discipline, determination, hard work, teamwork and sportsmanship among the youth. These fundamental values develop character and are necessary attributes for success as much as good health and proper nutrition. Alaska Sports, through the ALASKA POWER CAMPS, is a vehicle to encourage and invite to play outdoors to have an active lifestyle and to develop their skills and proper values through basketball and football. The Alaska Power Camp has been cited and recognized by the Philippine Sportwriters' Association for its outstanding contribution to youth sports and development in the country, particularly on the grassroots level.
