Ikaw Ang Simula!

Nattural Quality Corporation (NQC) decided to sponsor this event (GO NATURAL 2012) because the incidence of diabetes in the Philippines has increased at a metabolic rate. NQC is spearheading a campaign for the early education of children regarding this disease

Type 2 diabetes is a disease borne out of lifestyle. Unhealthy eating habits and a lack of exercise results in obesity, the leading cause of Type 2 diabetes. Children and their parents need to know that by laying the foundation of a healthy lifestyle and regular checks, the disease can be prevented

Nattural Quality Corporation (NQC) would like to invite everyone to support the campaign for early education of children about diabetes by joining Go Natural Run 2012

Interested parties may register at Toby's (Shangri-la Mall and SM Mall of Asia), Planet Sports (Trinoma and Glorietta), Riovana (BGC) and Athlete's Foot (Robinsons Galleria and Alabang Town Center). For group registrations of 5 people, they can avail of the 4+1 promo where the 5th runner is free. First 1,000 early bird registrants get a special Go Natural Baller ID. Special surprises await those who wear the Baller ID during the run

Proceeds from the event will be donated to ABS CBN’s Ako Ang Simula who will help mount the campaign for the early education and awareness of diabetes

Participating runners who would also donate an additional P150 over their registration fees receive an advocacy shirt

Check here for more details (gun start, race map, etc) about the event

Soleus GPS 1.0 Is Not Cheap

"Soleus GPS 1.0 is not cheap", I learned from David Arnold (founder of Soleus Running) during the media event held in Texas Road House Grill. Here in our neck of the woods we normally associate stuff that is pocket-friendly as cheap. I guess there's a negative vibe that comes along with the word that David immediately corrected me when he heard me saying it. To be honest, when the first time I heard about the product and learning its price point ($99), I was dumbfounded. Who wouldn't?

How can Soleus possibly earn with this watch? Was this an aggressive move? With so many options to choose from, a newcomer will be difficult to penetrate the existing GPS market without having a unique differentiator. Think about it. You got a watch that needs to sell. But it exists already. What else can you offer to the running community? Strip down to the basics and just give what a runner requires which helps to bring down the cost to make 'em and make it very affordable to everyone

GPS 1.0 digital watch is packed with features any runner could want from a watch. It comes with a Pace and Distance feature, which gauges and records the pace you’re going at with the current or total distance you ran. With these features, you can keep track of your performance each mile at the end of your run.

Additional features such as a high sensitivity GPS receiver, world time which covers 106 cities in all time zones, and a USB rechargeable lithium-ion battery which can last up to 8 hours in full GPS mode and weeks if not in GPS mode, the Soleus GPS 1.0 is a perfect running companion.  If you bought one already either for yourself or as a gift, here's a video which basically teaches you on how to use your watch

The GPS 1.0 is perfect for the runner who wants to track speed and distance but doesn't need all the bells and whistles. Last but not least, Soleus GPS 1.0 has a compact design which makes its one of the smaller GPS watches on the market today. If you are still hesitating if you'd get one ... dont! For only PHP6,150 - its a steal! Drop by at the nearest TimeGear or LTimeStudio near you

Here's the good news for the ladies. Besides the usual Black/Gray and Black/Electric Green, Soleus has released the new Black/Pink version.  Better call up their store that is closest to you, and ask if they have one available.  Better hurry.  As I know, this will be for a limited time only

Still couldn't decide if you'll buy one? Here's a review from DC Rainmaker. DC Rainmaker has reviewed many sport watches in the past and some include Garmin FR910XT, Garmin FR610, Timex Run Trainers, and Polar RCX5. Here's one of his concluding statements -

"If I was Garmin, Timex or Polar, I’d be rather concerned about this watch – and what the company plans to do in the future. Right now they’ve undercut the Garmin FR110 by about $90-$100 (half the price). Sure, the FR110 does heart rate – and that’s valuable, but I’m also realistic that many folks don’t use or care about heart rate monitoring – they just want to know how far and how fast"

Before I forget, I want to say THANKS! for extending the invite to the media launch (and the watch)

Donate Now And Help Save Lives!

Tropical Storm Sendong (international name: Washi) ravaged Mindanao, slamming it with devastating rains and unleashing flash floods and landslides that have left a horrifying trail of destruction. As of 12PM, the death toll has reached 720 (Cagayan De Oro 346, Iligan City 279, Bukidnon 47, Negros Oriental 37, Lanao del Norte 9, Compostela Valley 5, Zamboanga del Norte 3, Surigao del Sur 1). Most of the dead were asleep in the middle of the night on Friday when raging floodwaters pounded their homes from rivers and cascaded from mountain slopes following 12 straight hours of heavy rains in Mindanao. Drowning has been identified as the main cause of death

Sendong is the 19th tropical cyclone to lash the Philippines this year. As we wage this battle against disasters, we are appealing for immediate cash assistance to continue providing relief and recovery efforts for all affected communities. Red Cross is counting on your support to be able to provide food, non-food items (including kitchen ware, dinner sets, cleaning materials, latrines, medicine, livelihood programs and shelter) and our services to the most vulnerable Filipinos in the hardest hit cities and provinces

Marathon Singapore 2011 Expo

Decided to drop by at the Singapore Sports Expo to check out if they're selling medal hangers similar to the one purchased by The Bull Runner and possibly other stuff that I can bring back home. The Singapore Sports Expo (SSE) is co-locating with the Race Entry Pack Collection for the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2011

Since I'm both tired and lazy today, this blog entry will contain with pictures I've taken with my trusty mobile camera so please pardon the not-so crisp (read: blurry) images. Think of it like a walk through of the Expo. At least you won't get bored with my usual word-y blog. Enjoy!

a very long stretch
entrance to the expo
look what we have here
sign up for sgd60 and get a shirt and short
unfortunately no Ironman Run Trainer
they've used an X6 as the clock car
remembered one of our sessions in Milo APEX
nice discount from Nathan
no sneak peek on the 2012 collection
and more hydration belts from Ultimate Direction and Nathan
muscle rub stations powered by Tiger Balm ACTIVE
a bit expensive (sgd65) for my shallow pockets
runners "tasting" Shotz energy gel
if we got RUNNR, SecondWind & Riovana they have Running Lab
ecstatic to see Rock Tape here

They've got no medal hangers here but I didn't go home empty-handed. Bought a roll of Rock Tape and what I can say is that their adhesive formula is waaaay better than KT Tape
