Champions Dethroned at MILO Marathon CDO
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, November 25, 2012 – The City of Golden Friendship saw intense competition as veteran runner Jeff Sotto (1:13:10) renewed a staunch rivalry with four-time regional champion Arnold Unabia (1:13:41) at the 36th MILO Marathon Cagayan de Oro race Sunday morning. Three-time MILO Marathon King Cresenciano Sabal (1:13:55) also graced the 21-k tracks to wrap the top 3 cast of the men’s division race. The rivals treated spectators to a thrilling showdown of agility as they fought to win the last qualifying leg of the season
The distaff division also saw a heated race unfold as Aileen Tolentino dominated the 21-k track at 1:30:39 ahead of Michelle Ann Sampang (1:31:16) and last year’s regional champion Cresabel Cadion (1:35:45)
The school category awards unwrapped with Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive National High School earning double wins in the Biggest Delegation and Fastest Delegation awards. MOGCHS posted a total of 1177 finishers and an aggregate time of 23:50.45 besting other participating schools
Through its advocacy program called ‘Help Give Shoes’, which is now on its third year of staging, MILO donated a total of 500 shoes to public schools in the region as an ongoing commitment to develop the Filipino sports community. Students of Bulua Central School, Bayabas Elementary School, Agusan National High School, City Central School and Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School were among the campaign’s local beneficiaries. Since the campaign’s conception, MILO has given over 22, 700 shoes to underprivileged children nationwide

14,000 Graced Milo Event in Mindanao
With a force of about 14,000 runners and running enthusiasts blazing the Davao City tracks, MILO Marathon made local history as the biggest foot race ever to take place in the Mindanao region. Organizers said that they remain upbeat on reaching their target of 200,000 runners for the entire season
Anthony Nerza clocked in at a swift 1:12:30 and carved his best personal time to date. The 23-year old student said he looks forward to asserting his dominance in the National Finals, where he is set to face his hometown rival once again in the 42k track. “This year’s race allowed me to assess my limits in the sport regardless of my familiarity with the route and with the contenders. The level of competition today was definitely higher than the previous races, but I am expecting a more challenging bout from other regional winners in December,” said the Kapatagan, Digos native
Former MILO Marathon Queen Flordilisa Donos proved she remains a strong force in the sport by finishing far ahead of competitors in the 21k distaff race division. She clocked in at 1:26:52 and led fellow team members in the top 10 cast
Completing the top 3 cast for the 21-k men’s division race behind Anthony Nerza and Brian Lupio (1:13:54) is University of Mindanao’s James Castillo with 1:14:21. Meanwhile, Cellie Rose Jaro posted a time of 1:35:28 in the women’s division race, while Emely Avergonzado posted 1:37:32 to finish in third
For the school category awards, the Davao City National High School sent in 1,035 student runners to wrap the “Biggest School Delegation” plum, while University of Mindanao brought home the “Fastest School Delegation” award with an aggregate time of 19:59.22
